FCT: Wike Causes Stir by Ordering Permanent Secretaries to Bow to Tinubu

On Tuesday, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), created a mild commotion by instructing the Permanent Secretaries in his ministry to bow before President Bola Tinubu.

This directive was given during the inauguration of the arterial road N20, named in honor of Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, in Abuja.

Wike instructed the Permanent Secretaries to leave their seats and bow to President Tinubu as a gesture of gratitude for their appointments, prompting widespread laughter among the audience.

Wike stated, “Most of them never imagined reaching the pinnacle of their careers. So, if you permit me, I would like the beneficiaries, the permanent secretaries, to come forward. You are supposed to be agents of renewed hope. Come out, come out. Both women and men, face here and take a bow before Mr. President. These are the first set of permanent secretaries appointed by you, Your Excellency.”

Addressing the Head of Service, Wike continued, “Are you not a permanent secretary? And this is their Head of Service. These are the technical teams we now have. I want to sincerely thank you. Becoming the Head of Service was not always attainable, but now you have made it possible. I know some of their pastors who have been praying for them.”
