Hospital Dumps Sick Woman in Front of Husband’s Shop in Ibadan

A shocking incident occurred in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Friday afternoon, January 19, 2024, when officials of an unnamed hospital dumped a sick woman in front of her husband’s shop.

The woman, identified as Blessing Ayeni, was said to have been abandoned at the hospital since last year by her husband and family members.

The Nigerian Tribune reported that the incident happened at Desalu Street, Odo-Ona, in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area, where the woman’s husband runs a liquor store. The hospital officials claimed that they had no choice but to bring the woman to her husband’s address, after several attempts to reach him and get him to pay for her medical bills failed.

The hospital officials also alleged that the woman’s relatives had visited her at the hospital initially, but later stopped coming for unknown reasons. They said that the woman was suffering from a contagious disease, and warned the residents not to go near her.

The residents were shocked and confused by the sight of the woman, who was lying on the floor under the hot sun, looking weak and helpless. They tried to locate the woman’s husband, but he was nowhere to be found, and his shop was locked.

The incident has raised questions about the ethics and professionalism of the hospital, as well as the responsibility and compassion of the woman’s husband and family. The Nigerian Tribune called on the relevant authorities to intervene and rescue the woman from her plight.
