How Saraki, Dogara Betrayed APC and Hijacked the National Assembly in 2015

In his new book “Working with Buhari: Reflections Of A Special Adviser, Media And Publicity (2015 – 2023)”, Femi Adesina, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, revealed how ex-Senate President, Bukola Saraki, orchestrated a coup to take over the leadership of the National Assembly in 2015.

Adesina narrated how Saraki, a former Kwara State Governor, colluded with ex-House of Representatives Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, and ex-Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, to secure the support of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers, as most of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senators were not on his side.

Adesina also described how the plot was executed while Buhari and the APC leadership were waiting at the International Conference Centre (ICC) to meet with the APC legislators.

He said that they were shocked to see on television that the Senate had already started the election process, and that Saraki and Dogara had emerged as the leaders of the National Assembly, with the help of the PDP and some disloyal APC members.

Adesina added that Buhari was displeased with the outcome of the election, as it was a betrayal of the party’s mandate and a threat to the stability of the government.
