Men Arrested for Stealing POS, Withdrawing N.4m for Betting

In a recent development, the Niger State Police Command announced the arrest of two individuals in connection with alleged fraud involving POS machines and the misappropriation of N463,000 for betting activities on platforms such as NaijaBet and SportsBet.

The suspects, identified as Augustine Odiokwu Nonso, 28, from Bosso Estate area in Minna, and Ahmed Mohammed, 20, from Efu-Goro area in Mokwa, Mokwa Local Government, were apprehended following reports filed against them.

According to SP Wasiu Abiodun, the Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Police Command, Nonso, who had absconded with a POS machine and N170,000, was tracked down and arrested on April 4, 2024, following a direct complaint received at Bosso Division. He confessed to the crime, admitting to using the stolen funds for Naijabet wagers.

Mohammed, on the other hand, was arrested on May 5, 2024, after allegedly stealing a POS machine from a shop in Kainji, Borgu LG, and replacing it with a faulty one in his possession. This arrest stemmed from a complaint lodged at Mokwa Division on May 4, 2024, regarding a stolen POS machine at Kainji junction. Mohammed confessed to stealing the machine and withdrawing N293,000 from it for SportsBet bets.

Both suspects have been charged and are set to face prosecution in court for their actions.
