Minimum Wage: SGF Akume Says He Can’t Afford to Pay His Four Drivers N100,000 Each Month

George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, expressed concerns about the unrealistic nature of the wage increase demands from organized labour.

During a meeting with the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Abuja on Thursday, Akume, a former Governor of Benue State, sought support from the Christian community as the tripartite Committee on minimum wage continues negotiations.

He explained that meeting a minimum wage of N100,000 for his drivers would be challenging.

“I can’t manage to pay my drivers one hundred thousand each because I have four of them,” Akume remarked.

He criticized the demands of organized labour, questioning, “Where will we get that money?”

Previously, DAILY APPS reported that Akume accused the organized labour of committing treason by shutting down the national grid during the nationwide strike.
