Osun State Government Stands Firm on Chieftaincy Matters, Says No Going Back on Removal of Three Monarchs

The Osun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the decisions made on the chieftaincy matters in the state, as contained in the White Paper released on Thursday. The White Paper addressed the issues of the Aree of Iree, the Owa of Igbajo, and the Akinrun of Ikirun, among others.

The government’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, issued a statement on Friday to clarify the government’s position, following some fake news circulating on social media that claimed that the government was reversing its decisions. Rasheed described the fake news as a deliberate attempt to misinform the public and undermine the government’s authority.

He said: “The Media Department of the Osun State Governor wishes to inform the public that the fake news about the government going back on the decisions contained in the White Paper on the chieftaincy matter is false and malicious. The source of the fake news attributed the false claim to me, the spokesperson for the Osun State Governor. This is a blatant lie and a fabrication of the enemies of progress.

“The government stands by the decision of the White Paper and urges the public to ignore any report to the contrary. I did not make or issue any statement as credited to me. The public should disregard it entirely. The government’s decision is based on due process, rule of law, and customs and tradition of the people.”

Rasheed also thanked the people of Osun State for their support and understanding of the government’s actions, which he said were aimed at ensuring peace and harmony in the state. He appealed to the public to be vigilant and wary of fake news and propaganda that could cause confusion and disharmony in the state.
