Police Arrest Local Council Chairman For Plotting To Assassinate Assembly Speaker

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of two individuals, one of them a local government chairman, for their involvement in a conspiracy to kill the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Aondona Hycenth Dajoh.

The Force spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, revealed this in a statement on Monday. He said that the police had received reliable intelligence that the local government chairman had hired a militia group to carry out the murder of the Speaker.

The statement read: “Preliminary investigations revealed that the Local Government Chairman allegedly contracted a militia with the sinister intention of eliminating the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Aondona Hycenth Dajoh.”

He further stated that the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) acted swiftly and apprehended both suspects. They are currently in police custody and are assisting the investigators with the ongoing probe.

The statement also affirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to ensuring the safety and security of citizens and public officials. It warned that anyone who engages in such criminal activities will face the full wrath of the law.
