Tinubu Calls for Another Emergency Meeting on Ondo Crisis

President Bola Tinubu has invited the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and the State House of Assembly Speaker, Olamide Oladiji, to Aso Rock in Abuja for an urgent meeting on Monday.

The meeting is to address the political crisis in the South West State and the leadership vacuum in the state.

According to SaharaReporters, Tinubu will propose that Aiyedatiwa should act as governor until the return of Governor Akeredolu, who has been away from office since July 2023. Tinubu hopes that this will end the leadership crisis in the state.

This is the second emergency meeting convened by Tinubu to resolve the Ondo crisis. The first one was held on November 24, when Tinubu met with Aiyedatiwa, Akeredolu’s aides, state commissioners, party leaders, and some elders of the state.

The Ondo crisis was triggered by the announcement of mass protests and town hall meeting in Akure by Sowore, a former presidential candidate and activist. Sowore accused Akeredolu of abandoning the state and demanded his resignation or impeachment.
