Wike’s Meddling in Rivers Politics Sparks Outrage, Says Adeyanju

Nigerian activist Deji Adeyanju has slammed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, for interfering in the affairs of Rivers State. Adeyanju said Wike was treating Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State unfairly and disrespectfully. He said Wike was trying to govern both Abuja and Rivers at the same time.

Wike and Fubara have been locked in a bitter power struggle over the political leadership of Rivers State. Their conflict resulted in the arson and demolition of the House of Assembly complex. Several commissioners and lawmakers loyal to Wike quit the state cabinet and joined the All Progressives Congress, APC.

President Tinubu intervened in the crisis and brokered a peace deal between the two factions. He ordered Fubara to reappoint and swear in the commissioners. However, the peace pact did not end the animosity between Wike and Fubara.

Adeyanju accused Wike of being distracted by his involvement in Rivers politics. He said Wike was neglecting his duty as the FCT minister, as kidnapping and insecurity were rampant in the federal capital city. He said many people were abducted or killed by bandits.

Adeyanju also said Wike was imposing his will on Fubara, something he would not accept from anyone else. He said Wike would have destroyed Fubara’s properties and banned him from the state if the roles were reversed. He urged Wike to stop meddling in Rivers politics and focus on his job as the FCT minister.
