Dollar May Exchange for N4,000 Before the End of 2024 Under Tinubu’s Government — Ozekhome Warns

Lawyer and human rights activist, Mike Ozekhome, SAN, has criticised the current government of Bola Tinubu for aggravating the poverty situation in Nigeria. He made this remark during a live programme on Channels TV, where he urged President Tinubu and his team to urgently find solutions to the economic crisis in the country, as they promised to renew people’s “hope” during the 2023 campaigns.

The lawyer also said that the present government had no excuse to keep blaming its predecessors for the problems of Nigerians, but rather, it should be creative in solving them. He said, “We just paid out another $400 million today. Our reserves have risen to $34 billion. But by the end of this year, if we don’t act fast, the Naira may trade at N4000 to the dollar, because there is no plan. We may end up like Ghana, where people carried cedis in baskets to the market. Why do we let BDCs under trees and tables run our economy?”

He added, “It is very shameful to see this government blaming the Jonathan government that left office in 2015, almost 10 years ago. They are even blaming their own predecessor from the APC government. I think everything has gone wrong. This is not renewed hope, this is renewed poverty. We were poor before, but now we are poorer. We need to go back to the drawing board. This government should rethink. Think outside the box. Or better still, think without the box. New innovations are needed.”
