Pupils Hospitalized after Eating O-Meal Food in Osun School

The Osun State government has launched a full investigation into the food poisoning incident that affected some pupils of Saint James Primary School B, Owoope Osogbo, on Tuesday.

The State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, ordered immediate action after he was informed of the situation by his Special Adviser on O-Meal, Grace Oluwaseyi Ayodele.

According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the governor also instructed the suspension of food preparation at the school until the investigations are completed.

He also summoned the cooks and the planning officer of the O-Meal programme to a meeting on Tuesday morning.

The statement further said that the governor directed the enforcement of food standards and control, as well as the auditing of the O-Meal structure, to prevent future occurrences.

He also assured that the state government would cover the medical expenses of the affected students.

The Chairman of the Local Government Education Authority, Nathaniel Ojetola, who led the intervention efforts, said that 18 students were treated and discharged.

He also said that the total student population of the school was 200, and 103 of them were enrolled in the O-Meal programme. He added that a government delegation was visiting the families of the affected students.

Newsflash Nigeria reported that many pupils of Saint James Primary School B suffered from stomach aches after eating meals provided by vendors under the O-Meal programme.
