According to Kehinde, the driver of the car, whose identity is unknown, was on his way from Ibadan to Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, when he lost control of the vehicle due to a mechanical fault. The car veered off the road and crashed into the Obada Market, where Okunola was buying cassava peels.
Okunola, who was a teacher at a school in Obada Area, Ode-Omu, was about to board a motorcycle when the car hit him. He died on the spot, while the driver fled the scene.
The accident sparked outrage among the residents and market-goers, who set the car on fire in protest. The NSCDC said it was working with other security agencies to locate the driver and bring him to justice.
The NSCDC State Commandant, Michael Adaralewa, appealed to the public to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies in ensuring road safety in the state. He also advised motorists to obey traffic laws and maintain their vehicles regularly.
